The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® allows users to stretch and strengthen muscles while simultaneously stimulating and strengthening connective tissues in and around the joints of the body. The exercises are synchronized with precise breathing patterns, which enhances aerobic and cardiovascular work and promotes neuromuscular rejuvenation. Exercises are performed on a Professional Pulley Tower, which is fully adjustable to meet the needs of varying body types, fitness levels and physical abilities. The fluid, undulating and spiraling movements are completely free and flowing. Benefits include increased mobility of the spine, as well as the opening and releasing of stiff or tight areas of the body such as the back, hips, knees, and shoulders. Opening and freeing these areas can eliminate most forms of chronic pain. Practitioners experience increased range of motion, vitality, body-awareness and equilibrium.
GYROKINESIS® exercise consists of floor and stool work, designed in conjunction with the Tower work. These exercises allow one to work through the seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left/ right sides and twists and circular. All joints are articulated and opened. Using the same gentle undulating movements as the Tower work, GYROKINESIS® exercise stimulates the body’s internal organs while strengthening and lengthing the muscles and spine. The corresponding breathing patterns that accompany each movement stimulate the subtle nervous system, opening up energy pathways and oxygenating the blood. This benefits not only the entire physical body, but the emotional and subtle bodies as well.
Juliu Horvath created GYROTONIC® equipment and exercises after may years of intense study and self-exploration. A former dancer with many injuries, Juliu’s quest for self-healing spawned an entirely new way to bring one’s self into perfect alignment and balance while exercising the entire body in a safe, supported manner. This unique method combines the benefits gained by practicing yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and Tai Chi, but is not derived from any of these modalities. It stands alone as one of the safest, most satisfying full-body exercise systems offered today.
“I want music in my body and poetry in my body,
and I want to be skillful without struggle; it has to come without struggle.”
